TEXT DELIVERED VAPING EDUCATION

TEXT DELIVERED VAPING EDUCATION

HUNTER NEW ENGLAND LOCAL HEALTH DISTRICT

ehc worked with Hunter New England Local Health District and teenagers aged 12-15 to develop a text message delivered health promotion program aimed at reducing uptake of vaping among youth. To develop the texts, we interviewed adolescents and their caregivers to understand knowledge, attitudes, and beliefs related to vaping to address knowledge gaps. Texts were sent to caregivers and adolescents along with an online survey to measure their understanding of the text, their reactions to the text, and whether they liked the content linked in the message. The feedback was used to tailor the messages in two stages, and a final interview was conducted to determine overall findings. The final bank of text messages will be used in a broader pilot in Hunter New England to measure the effectiveness of text-message delivered programs on reducing vaping-related behaviours.
